Gabriel Jesus is the latest wonderkid to make waves in the Brazilian league and looks set to be a world class player in the near future. A player with incredible trickery, pacy, ambidextrous and also capable of scoring great goals, he ticks all the boxes for the label of a attacking wonderkid. He plays mainly as a left winger but very rarely does he stay out wide. He loves to drift into central areas and play in the channels between the back four, always on the look for a chance to score. On top of his awareness for space in the final third, he also possesses great vision and great final ball although not consistently yet.

At only 19 years old, he has already become the key point of attack for Palmeras and big things are expected this season if they can keep him. Clubs like FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City among others have been keeping keen eye on the young winger’s progress and he has not disappointed. His youth coach at Palmeiras, Bruno Petri has already expressed his admiration for the youngster’s abilities and he believes given time he will be a star for the national team;

“He will become a major player in Brazilian football, and also the Seleçāo, if they have patience. He is a boy who is easy to speak with and work with and who is different to the others in the question of training, always giving more than 100 per cent,”

His latest display against Atletico PR is easily his best performance to date in the first team squad. He was outstanding scoring 2 goals and create 1 assist in a magnificent attacking display by the 19 year old.

For all his great skills and incredible dribbling, there are a few issues with him as a player. He is at times very petulant and can easily get distracted by the opponent, especially when he starts arguing with them on the field. And, he is also very inconsistent in his play and his dribbling however that does help make him more unpredictable. With that said, its easy to see why he is one of the best Brazilian wonderkids to have ever play for Palmeiras. It will be exciting to see where he will end up in 10 years time.
