Club: RP Leipzeg Nationality: Germany
League: 2. Bundesliga Height: 192 cm, 6’1 Position: ST
A wonderful talent who has showed his goal scoring prowess in all the youth tournaments and even has a few Bundesliga goals to his name. However, he is not the most popular of players in Germany due to his move to one of Germany’s most hated club, RP Leipzeg. Davie Selke was one of the Bundesliga most heralded youngster in the 2014/15 season but during the summer transfer window he opted to move down to the second division to join new mega rich RP Leipzeg. He is at this moment, been labelled “Judas” by the German media and fans, who oppose clubs like RP Leipzeg that don’t abide to the rules of the fans being the majority shareholders in the club.
Despite all the negativity, Davie Selke has managed to score 9 goals and 2 assists but with his talents, he was expected to score near double this. However, this is a long term investment for RP Leipzeg and he is capable of surpassing that number in Bundesliga next year if RP Leipzeg do make the step up. He has all the potential to be one of the best strikers in Europe, a youngster with all the technical and physical characteristic to be a complete forward like his idol Mario Gomez. He has also been learning from his idol Mario Gomez, with how he dealt with intense criticism throughout his career, as he states;
“[Gomez] has often come in for criticism. But he bounces back all the stronger for it everytime. I think that’s a hugely important part of professional football,” Selke said, per the Bundesliga‘s website. “There’s a lot to be learnt from it and that’s what I’m doing.”
