WONDERKID: Dante Rigo

Name: Dante Rigo       Age: 17 years old (born 11/12/1998)

Club: PSV Eindhoven

League: U19 Eredivisie       Height:180 cm,  5’9       Position: CM/DM/AM

Dante Rigo is a Belgian midfielder currently playing for Dutch side PSV Eindhoven U19 side and he has been impressing in their youth teams. His best role is that of a deep lying maker. His favourite players are Andrea Pirlo and Kevin Strootman which he has moulded his playing style by combining their best attributes. A few observers are starting to tip him to be the next Belgian talent to rise to stardom and continue the recent influx of top class Belgian playmakers into the world’s game. However, he realises that he has a long way to go to reach the top;

“Education must not be neglected. My goal now is to get into the first team of PSV…Playing at FC Barcelona, which is my big dream. But we are still a long way away. “

PHYSICAL

He is not a physically imposing midfielder but for his style of play this is not a disadvantage. Not particularly pacy but very agile with good balance. This makes it easy for him to pivot and evade defenders with the simplest shoulder fake. Very similar to James Ward-Prowse, another young wonderkid.

TECHNICAL

His strengths as a player all come in this category. A wonderfully gufted passer with a great passing range. He can play long balls with ease and quickly transition into a quick incise short passing game. Another massive strength in his technique is his creativity, he has wonderful vision. Both his feet and chest control are impressive for a player his age. At set pieces, he is somewhat of a specialist, both in his delivery and also scoring them. He does try to avoid using his weaker foot and can be heavily depended on stronger right foot.

TACTICAL

He is very attacking minded and likes to play the ball forward as often as possible. Very spatially aware and can slot into empty spaces effortlessly. And, does occasionally get the odd goal and assist but for a player of his talents, he doesn’t get these as often as he should. He does often drift into forward areas into positions that the forwards and more advanced midfielders occupy which could lead him into overcrowded areas. For a deep lying playmaker, he lacks the patience at times to just sit in front of the defence and dictate the tempo of the game. However, these are issues which can be as result of a youngster trying to impress his coaches by getting into more scoring positions.

Potential: (World Class)

******* (8/10)

 A very gifted midfielder who will definitely have a great future in football, if he can stay free from serious injury. And with his potential its not far fetched to see him one playing for his dream club FC Barcelona.
